Two kinds of series are asked in the examination.  Based on numbers and the based on alphabets.

• Firstly Observe the given series and find the pattern of series such as  primes numbers, perfect squares, cubes , etc which are easy to identify.   Calculate the differences between the numbers.  Observe the pattern in the differences.
• If the differences are increasing rapidly it might be a square series, cube series, or multiplicative series.  If the numbers are increasing slowly it is an addition or subtraction series.

Types of series :

1. Prime Number series :

Eg . 1,3,5,7,11,?

a) 13           b) 19           c)21             d) 23

In this example we can see that prime numbers are arranged in order so next number is 13. Which is prime number.

1.      Difference Series :

Eg.  2,5,8,11,14,17,20,23,?

a) 22            b)26          c) 28             d) 29

In this example we can see that difference in between the numbers are 3. So next number of the series is 26.

Eg :  14,21,29,38,48,59,..

a) 65          b) 45               c) 71                  d) 70

In this example we can see that difference between numbers are increasing. So next number is 71.

1.        Division series

Eg. 160,80,40,20,.

a) 10              b) 30              c) 40                 d) 50

In this example we can see that numbers are decreasing and divided by some number which is 2. So next number is 10.

1.       Squares/ Cube series

Eg . 4,16,25,36,49,…

a) 100               b) 81                      c) 121                    d)144

In this example we can see that numbers are in square form So next number is 81.

1.        Alternate series

Eg . 2,3,5,6,8,9,11,12,14…….

a) 13                 b)15                  c) 17                 d) 20

In this example we can see that numbers are in increasing order in alternate digits by 3.So next is

7.   Multiplication series

Eg . 4,12,36,108…….

a) 324         b)234               c)231                 d)431

In this example we can see that numbers are multiplied by 3. So the next number is 108*3.

8.          x2−1 Series

Eg    8, 15, 24,35, 48…

a) 53                 b) 63                c) 73             d) 83

In this example we can see that numbers are in the form of square of a number -1. So the next number is 64-1=63.

1.      x2+1 Series

Eg . 10, 17, 26, 37, 50..

a) 64            b) 65                  c) 7                    d)70

In this example we can see that numbers are in the form of square of a number +1. So the next number is 64+1=65.

1.    x3−1 Series

Eg . 0,7,26,63,124….

In this example we can see that numbers are in the form of cube of a number -1. So the next number is 216-1=215.

11.      x3+1 Series

Eg . 0,10,28,65,126…

In this example we can see that numbers are in the form of cube of a number +1. So the next number is 216+1=217.

12.  x+ x2 Series

Eg.3,4,12,45,196..

In this example we can see that numbers are in the form of multiply+square of a number. So the next number is 1005..

Note:

In multiplication series always take the 3rd element and multiply and add or subtract something that fit in the series and compare previous element and make the series according to pattern.
